Life Hacks for pet owners

Take a look at these easy to follow Pet Hacks that is guaranteed to make your life as a Pet Parent a little easier.

Does your dog eat too fast ?

Eating too fast is not only unhealthy for the dog, but it can cause serious stomach problems, especially if you have a large breed dog.   Dogs that eat their food too fast can develop Gastric Dilatation Volvulus - GDV / Bloat, a condition that if not treated within 2 hours, can lead to very rapid and painful death.  Should your dog develop bloat, and you can get them to the vet in time, expect a hefty bill afterwards, as this will involve emergency surgery to rectify the situation.  The other alternative is for you to get a Dogma Dog bowl, developed by a vet, and designed to last a lifetime.

The easy way to give your pet medication

There is nothing worse than having to give your pet medication which they refuse to take.  Make your life easy by making some home made Pill Pockets.

Mix together 1 Table spoon of Flour, 1 Table Spoon of CRUNCHY Peanut Butter and Table Spoon of Milk or water.  Roll out into 12 little balls and punch holes in them.  Place in the fridge for when you need them.

You can also make them in larger quantity.  For example, this amount makes about 30 pockets:
1/2 cup Milk, 1/2 cup Crunchy Peanut Butter, 1 cup Flour

Helpful Hints

  • Some dogs prefer whole wheat flour to all-purpose flour, but you can use any kind of other flour you want.
  • Chunky peanut butter is better because then your dog won't be able to easily detect the pill forms hiding in the pocket.
  • If your dog is allergic to dairy, you can try to use water.
  • Store in the fridge a week or two, or in the freezer for longer.

Citronella as a pet repellent

Cats are especially a problem when they venture and explore outside of their home territory into neighbours properties and often into their homes.  This particularly causes problems when the neighbours have other pets of their own, or worse, when they dont like cats.  The best advice we can give you is to give them a cat repellent that you know is safe for your cat.  Dilute a solution of 20 drops Citronella oil into 200ml of water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle.   Making the proper citronella oil solution is key to the success of using citronella oil as cat repellent, particularly if you are going to use the solution indoors. This solutionshould be the proper strength for effective indoor and outdoor use.  Keep in mind that it has to be sprayed in the areas where the cat enters the property.  By giving your neighbour "The Solution" to the problem, rest assured that they will be more willing to deal with the situation in an amicable way.  The same solution can also be sprayed on areas where you want your dog to avoid.  This is also a great tool to use during house training your pets for areas that they need to avoid in and around the house.

Get rid or Pet Hairs the easy way

Use a window squeegee to remove unwanted pet hairs from furniture and clothing.  Remember the secret is to dampen the rubber slightly for a much easier grip on the hairs.

Bad Doggy Breath?

Sprinkle some freshly chopped parsley over your dog or cat's food to help them instantly freshen their breath.  This should however not be ignored and a visit to your vet is needed to ensure your pet does not have a dental disease or possible intestinal worms.
