Directions: We are situated half way between Trompsburg and Springfontein in Southern Free State. Directions from Bloemfontein (travelling Southwards): You need to take the N1 SOUTH from Bloemfontein. After about 120-130 km you will pass Trompsburg on your right hand side. (There is an offramp from the highway, and if you were going to Trompsburg that is where you would turn off) STAY ON THE N1 going south. From the Trompsburg bridge, measure 14km. You will come to a large sign "Hillside". The intersection and turning is immediately before the sign. Here you turn LEFT Drive 800m or so over a little hill on a gravel road; and you will come to some stone walls. Look out for a little sign indicating the parking space for "Len's Cottage”. Directions from Colesburg (travelling Northwards): We are roughly 100 km north of Colesberg on the N1. You will pass two turnoffs to Springfontein. The first is Springfontein south, the next Springfontein north. From the northern (2nd) turnoff, measure 9km - keeping on the N1. Turn right,or east at a large green N1 Roadsign : Hillside Over a small hill (400 metres) and you will see our trees and stone walls. Look out for a little sign indicating the parking space for "Len's Cottage”. If you have a horse trailer do not try to turn in at Len’s cottage, but continue a further 50m and stop at the house gate for assistance to the stable/paddock.

Pet Friendly for horses... Hillside is a working farm, situated just 800m off the N1 in the Southern Free State, between the towns of Springfontein and Trompsburg – an ideal stop-over between Johannesburg / Pretoria and the Cape. The farm has been managed by the family for four generations and more than 100 years. We run Merino wool sheep and a Red Angus cattle stud. The farmhouse is located behind a koppie, out of view of the road, set in a beautiful garden. We provide luxury guest accommodation. It is a refuge of peace and quiet where you can relax and enjoy pristine nature, open skies, birdsong and fresh air!

Rules for all our Best Friends visiting:  If you have a horse trailer do not try to turn in at Len’s cottage, but continue a further 50m and stop at the house gate for assistance to the stable/paddock - if necessary please give me a call : 082 928 7111 Upon arrival, please keep your horse(s) secured in your trailer until our Manager has established communication with you. Please ensure your horses have sufficient food and water at all times. Please be careful to secure the stable door / paddock gate properly to prevent the horses from escaping!
