Social Media & Content Specialist

Job Description

This position is responsible for developing, managing and nurturing content for PetHealthCare's consumer-facing website,, and growing social media communities including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest. The position will work to hone and craft the brand’s voice, creating compelling pet related content driving brand awareness, engagement, and consideration for PetHealthCare. This position will liaise with several partner agencies to execute PetHealthCare’s communications strategy and paid media campaigns.


Core Functions:

  • Create, curate and promote engaging content across PetHealthCare’s social media channels including but not limited to the brand’s consumer facing Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter accounts to support brand strategy, and in adherence to brand’s guidelines
  • Manage feeds, keywords, hashtags and links on various community platforms
  • Monitor (through social listening) multiple streams and flag notable content or mentions
  • Discover new and interesting content around the web and create unique posts and content
  • Develop lifestyle content for PetHealthCare, including writing, researching, and sourcing products based on industry trends and proprietary data and research.
  • Manage the development of creative assets to support and promote editorial content (i.e.: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, infographics, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile)
  • Collaborate with agency partners to build and maintain the ongoing engagement strategy
  • Brainstorm and strategize social media initiatives based on brand goals
  • Maintain up-to-date social media editorial calendar and ensure posts go live in a timely manner
  • Identify, prioritize, and facilitate conversations with key community members and influencers (brands, designers, bloggers and Instagrammers)
  • Develop and manage PetHealthCare’s promotions including legal and prize fulfilment
  • Attend industry events in support of developing PetHealthCare’s presence
  • Monitor and utilize best practices for social media campaigns
  • Stay current on industry and social media news and trends, constantly testing new ideas and platforms
  • Partner with social agencies to establish and monitor campaign benchmarks / KPIs for measuring the impact of social media efforts (paid and organic)
  • Review and analyze editorial campaigns to monitor the effectiveness of social amplification
  • Assist with managing website advertising through internal CMS including cropping/creating images and uploading content
  • Support daily operations of the Advertising department in various projects and assignments

Job Requirements

  • Passion for pet industry and online marketing
  • 2-3 years of related work experience
  • Experience in a social community and/or content writer (blogger/short-form)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of analytics and social listening tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social web
  • Exceptional ability to build relationships
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Creative thinker with the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to think independently, identify opportunities and solve problems
  • Ability to manage and to work collaboratively with other team members and social agencies
  • Diligent worker with the ability to be flexible
  • Strong time management, organizational, and listening skills
  • Curious and self-motivated to stay on top of new social media venues and opportunities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft™ Office Suite
  • Proficiency in Adobe products (Photoshop, InDesign), a plus


Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

  • Work from home (can be anywhere in South Africa).
  • Required to have face-to-face and or telephone / skype interaction with fellow team members and external contacts
